History of Our Association

The Turner Syndrome Support group was started in 1983 by Glenn Fisher after the birth of her second daughter Mandy, who was diagnosed with TS just after birth. In a quest to find support and information to help deal with the implications of Mandy having TS, Glenn realised that there was nothing available and the experience was very isolating. The first meeting was held in Glenn and Geoff's home, and from there became a support group in New South Wales; and eventually growing to become Australia-wide as it is today. Glenn's voluntary roles were President, National President, Executive Director and Board Member for over 25 years.

Geoff Fisher, Glenn's husband, has also had a big involvement with the group since its inception, and has not only been the Secretary, but was instrumental in setting up all the paperwork so that the Association could become a registered charity and a company. He has been a strong supporter of the Association for over 25 years.

For many years the group was administered from Glenn and Geoff's home. They have two other children - Kelly and Daren. The whole family helped in the many tasks undertaken to provide support to others, such as printing and sending out the newsletters, organising seminars, conferences and regular meetings. In 2003 the International Turner Syndrome Conference was held in Sydney. It was hugely successful, and brought together people from many countries around the world who shared a common link with TS.

In 2005 Glenn received a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her volunteer services, particularly to Turner Syndrome. Both Glenn and Geoff are Life Members of the Turner Syndrome Association of Australia.

The Association is fortunate to have had the dedication, commitment and hard work of Glenn and Geoff over those many years.
